Latin America Intervention & the Capture of Maduro

This is a quick 45 minute activity to help students understand the historical context that can help them better understand the Trump Administration's recent intervention in Venezuela and the "capture" or kidnapping or President Nicolas Maduro. 

First, students watch a news clip to give them an overview of what happened on January 3, 2026 and then create a timeline (template provided) based on four short readings. The readings cover The Monroe Doctrine, The Roosevelt Corollary, Cold War interventions in Latin America, and the recent attack on Venezuela.
