WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

In the Scopes Trial, students learn the amazing Shakespearean drama that was the trial and how it represented so many of the clashing ideas of the times to give a great overview of the decade- fundamentalism vs modernism, city v country, the rise of the KKK, the Red Scare, and of course- jazz! In episode two, students learn about the effects of prohibition and the rise of Al Capone- how a street thug took advantage of the times to control Chicago with his own reign of terror.  Lastly, students learn about the controversial Margret Sanger and her fight to secure birth control for women during the decade while also covering women's changing roles - the flappers, working and domestic women. It also covers her work with the eugenics movement and controversies that have led Planned Parenthood to remove her name from the foundation. It's heavy but approached delicately and allows students to come to their own interpretations of Sanger.

ACTIVITIES IN THIS BUNDLE
