These are my personal favorite activities to do with my students! Students step into the role of presidents and advisors during nine of America's biggest historical turning points. From Washington managing the Whiskey Rebellion crisis to Lincoln wrestling with the challenges of Reconstruction, students analyze evidence, debate possible solutions, make difficult decisions, and then compare their choices with what actually happened in history.

These simulations build critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and historical reasoning in an unforgettable way while making the content stick.

         5. Primary Source Sandwich Mini-Inquiries

Over 40  mini-inquiry activities pair compelling primary source documents with rich historical images to help students analyze evidence, source documents, consider bias, and sharpen their argumentative writing skills.

Think of them as mini-DBQs that students actually enjoy completing!

          6. Classroom Timeline & Activity

Decorate your classroom with a beautiful timeline that spans from early Native American civilizations through the Civil War, helping students visualize how historical events connect across time. I reference it constantly to help students understand chronological development, and before long they begin using it on their own during discussions and activities.
